Top journals raise concerns about data in two studies related to Covid-19

Two leading medical journals have expressed concern over data used in two studies that drew major conclusions about Covid-19. The journals raised issues about the quality of information within a database, maintained by Surgisphere Corp., containing information from hundreds of hospitals worldwide. The New England Journal of Medicine issued its "expression of concern" over a study published in its pages in May, which suggested that popular blood pressure medicines did not increase the risk of death in Covid-19 patients. At the same time, The Lancet also expressed concern about a study it published suggesting — in data from nearly 100,000 patients — that the antimalaria drugs hydroxycholoroquine and chloroquine were linked to a higher risk of death in hospitalized Covid-19 patients.
