Alzheimer's Disease Programs Initiative (ADPI) 2020 Awards Announced
ACL is pleased to announce the 2020 awards for its state and community Alzheimer's Disease Programs Initiative (ADPI). The 12 newly awarded, 3-year cooperative agreements are with 2 states and 10 community organizations for a total of $10,841,332. The awardees are located in 10 states across the nation.
More than 5 million Americans are currently living with Alzheimer’s disease or related dementias (ADRD). As the population of older adults increases, researchers anticipate the number of people living with ADRD will nearly triple by 2050. ACL’s ADPI program is dedicated to meeting this challenge by developing dementia capability in states and expanding it in communities.
The programs are engaging in a range of activities designed to meet the needs of the communities and people they serve. Programs support long-term services and supports to people living with ADRD, as well as paid and unpaid caregivers. While each program is different, all include activities designed to support unique populations, including low-income and minority communities, people with ADRD who live alone, and people living with intellectual and developmental disabilities who are at risk of developing dementia.
The successful 2020 ADPI applicants are:
- Benjamin Rose Institute (OH)
- Elder Services of the Merrimack Valley (MA)
- Hospice of the Valley (AZ)
- Lower Cape Fear Hospice, Inc. (NC)
- LTSC Community Development Corporation (CA)
- Memorial Hospital (NH)
- Minnesota Department Of Human Services (MN)
- Missoula Aging Services (MT)
- Montana Department of Public Health and Human Services (MT)
- Omid Multicultural Institute for Development (CA)

All of the new grantees are required to dedicate 50% of their funds to direct services that include, but are not limited to, delivery of home and community-based dementia specific evidence-based and evidence-informed interventions, and dementia education and training programs. Grantees develop and deliver program activities with expectations for their sustainability beyond the life of the grant.
