How fast is too fast for Covid-19 vaccine?
Debate is raging on the Twitterverse about how fast is too fast to manufacture and distribute Covid-19 vaccine. Those erring on the side of caution say the only option is to wait until a vaccine is fully proven to be safe and effective, and worry that regulators are already under immense public and political pressure to move at breakneck speed.
But at least some scientists say they would support the early distribution of a vaccine, before the completion of Phase 3 trials, if it could save lives. One argument is that a vaccine could become available now under compassionate use terms, for people who are willing to accept the risks of an experimental vaccine.
So we’re curious: Do you think we need to stick to the traditional scientific playbook, or do extraordinary times call for extraordinary flexibility?
