Her name is Kathrin Jansen. And, as head of vaccine research at Pfizer, she comes to the project having already led the development of the world’s two best-selling vaccines.
Now, Jansen is leading a 650-person team night and day on Zoom meetings from her Manhattan apartment as Pfizer seeks to develop a Covid-19 vaccine in partnership with the German startup BioNTech, as STAT’s Matthew Herper writes.
Billions of dollars could be on the table, but the Pfizer exec has a calm demeanor — and a devotion to data over groupthink. As one of her colleagues told STAT: “She will not sacrifice quality for speed. In other words, it’s got to be right.”
