AHRQ Stats: Life Expectancy Among Americans In 2021, the average life expectancy in the United States decreased to 76.1 years, compared with an average of 77 years in 2020 and 78.8 years in 2019. Life expectancy in comparable countries improved to 82.4 years in 2021 from 82.1 years in 2020.
