Prehospital EMS Blood Transfusion and Fluid Interventions for Hemorrhagic Shock
Prehospital EMS Blood Transfusion and Fluid Interventions for Hemorrhagic Shock: There are three objectives for this systematic review. First, we will assess the effectiveness and potential harms of different blood transfusion and fluid interventions and protocols for treatment of hemorrhagic shock in traumatic injury and nontraumatic medical conditions. Based on what is found in the published literature, interventions will be compared with each other when possible, and with standard care.
Prehospital EMS Blood Transfusion and Fluid Interventions for Hemorrhagic Shock
(Submission deadline extended until December 26, 2024)
The purpose of this systematic review (SR) is to synthesize the evidence on the feasibility, effectiveness, and safety of blood and blood product transfusions and fluids administered in the prehospital setting for the treatment of hemorrhagic shock in traumatic injury and nontraumatic medical conditions. A comprehensive analysis of the gaps in the existing literature base will also be addressed to move the field forward. Finally, an assessment of the literature about implementation of blood transfusion programs and protocols in EMS systems will be completed, exploring barriers to and facilitators of successful implementation. The results of the SR will inform future prehospital care evidence-based guidelines, treatment protocols, and state and local EMS agency decision-making.
