Statistical Brief Compares Telehealth Use in Metropolitan, Nonmetropolitan Areas

https://meps.ahrq.gov/mepsweb/data_stats/Pub_ProdResults_Details.jsp?pt=Statistical+Brief&opt=1&id=1326 As part of AHRQ’s stated priority to define appropriate and cost-effective use of telehealth, a new statistical brief from the agency’s Medical Expenditure Panel Survey (MEPS) project estimates the use of telehealth services between 2021 and 2023 for both rural and urban patients. Compared with patients in metropolitan areas, nonmetropolitan patients used telehealth services for a significantly smaller percentage of medical visits. While telehealth accounted for just over 26 percent of mental health visits in rural areas, urban patients used telehealth for nearly half of all mental health visits. The statistical brief also estimates telehealth use by insurance type and other patient and provider characteristics. https://meps.ahrq.gov/mepsweb/
