Jackson Women’s Health Organization overturned the constitutional right to abortion that had been in place for nearly 50 years under Roe v. Wade. Prior to the Dobbs ruling, abortions were permitted up to fetal viability in all states. That federal standard was eliminated under Dobbs, allowing states to ban or restrict clinicians from providing abortion before viability.
