NCIRD: IIS/Stds/Standard Code Set

IIS: HL7 Standard Code Set
Mapping NDC to CVX and MVX

The National Drug Code (NDC) is produced by the Federal Drug Administration (FDA) and serves as a universal product identifier for human drugs. These codes indicate the product(FDA Product Code), the manufacturer or packager(FDA Labeler Code), and the packaging (e.g. 5 dose vial). This table will not include packaging codes.

The Code List column gives some complete NDC codes associated with the Product and Labeler. The NDC Status indicates if the NDC code is currently active. The CDC contract column indicates if the NDC code is associated with a vaccine currently available from the CDC vaccine contract. The short description is the name of the vaccine and the CDC product name is the CDC name for the specific product. (Similar to trade name)

CVX codes are codes that indicate the product used in a vaccination. MVX codes are codes that indicate the manufacturer of a vaccine. These codes are maintained by the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, Immunization Information System Support Branch (IISSB) for use in HL7 data transmission.

The goal of the table is to support mapping of NDC codes to CVX codes. It is not intended to support mapping from CVX to NDC nor to be a definitive source for NDC codes. Active NDC codes and inactive NDC codes are included. Every effort is made to keep the codes current.

Questions regarding this table should be directed to the IIS Technical Assistance Team; CDC, National Centers for Immunization and Respiratory Diseases, Immunization Information Systems Support Branch-Informatics, 1600 Clifton Road, Mailstop E-62, Atlanta, GA 30333.
