The great almond milk debate continues
Is calling soy milk and other non-dairy products "milk" udderly confusing to consumers? The FDA wants to know. As the agency explores whether soy, nut, and other dairy substitutes can brand themselves as milk, the agency is calling on the public to share their perspective. Health officials want to know what consumers think “milk” and “cheese” really mean and whether they know the nutritional differences between dairy products and dairy substitutes. “We [must] ensure that the labeling of such products does not mislead consumers,” FDA Commissioner Scott Gottlieb said. The public has two months to comment.
