Longtime NEJM editor plans to retire
The longtime editor of the New England Journal of Medicine just announced he’s planning to retire within the next year. Dr. Jeffrey Drazen has spent nearly two decades at the helm of the prestigious journal. Under his direction, NEJM shifted away from observational studies, re-examined its policies on disclosing financial conflicts, and launched a medical publishing platform in China. But he came under fire in 2016 for an editorial referring to people who use data generated by other scientists as “research parasites.” Drazen will be part of an international search for his replacement.
