Avoid Grant Scams


No legitimate federal government employee would ever call you and tell you that you qualify or have been approved for a grant that you never applied for—but scammers may do just that. They might then tell you that you need to pay a small “processing fee” to receive the grant—something else that government employees would never do.

Real government grant applications and information about them are free, and there are no fees associated with applying for a grant. And all government grants involve an application process; if you haven’t applied for a grant, you won’t receive one.

To protect yourself from scammers, don’t pay any money for a “free” government grant. The Department of Health and Human Services has additional tips on how to avoid grant scams.
