Examining the effects of an obstetrics interprofessional programme on reductions to reportable events and their related costs.

Teamwork training and safety culture interventions each have been shown to enhance obstetric safety. This study describes a Canadian interprofessional program that incorporated both elements and achieved a reduction in maternal adverse events at 34 hospitals. This decrease was most pronounced 3 to 6 years after the program started. However, no control group was identified or analyzed. A WebM&M commentary discussed the human factors that led to an incident involving serious perinatal harm.
