FDA commissioners talk real-world evidence
FDA Commissioner Scott Gottlieb and three former FDA commissioners are teaming up today to talk about a hot topic in health care: real-world evidence. The amount of patient data that’s available to analyze — whether it’s pulled from electronic health records or gathered by patients themselves with apps and devices — is growing rapidly. That data could be valuable when it comes to figuring out not only how well a treatment works, but also how much it’s worth in value-based payment programs. At a Bipartisan Policy Center event this afternoon, Gottlieb and former FDA Commissioners Robert Califf, Mark McClellan, and Andrew von Eschenbach will explore new ways that real-world evidence can be used.
