Cancer rates predicted to fall in the EU
A new study predicts that 1.4 million people will die of cancer in the European Union this year, a roughly 5 percent decrease in overall cancer mortality rates since 2014. Scientists looked at patterns in cancer deaths from 1970 through 2014 to project for 2019. Lung cancer rates, for example, are expected to increase by 4 percent in women, while breast cancer rates in women are expected to decrease by up to 16 percent in some age groups. And even though the forecast points to a positive trend, “any prediction should always be considered with caution,” the study authors write.
