This 24-page report details the impact of unsafe water, sanitation, and hygiene on children living in the midst of protracted conflicts – children who are, on average, more likely to die from diarrheal disease linked to unsafe water and sanitation than from bombs and bullets. It provides case studies that highlight how partners are successfully addressing this complex issue, meeting critical needs, and saving lives. It concludes with a specific change agenda to help secure the right to safe water, sanitation, and hygiene for every child. (PDF)

Source: National Academies Press (NAP). Published: 3/2019. The devastation of Hurricane Katrina brought the phrase "community resilience" into the lexicon of disaster management. This 117-page report summarizes the existing portfolio of relevant or related community resilience measurement efforts, and notes gaps and challenges associated with them. It describes how some communities build and measure resilience, and offers four key actions that communities could take to build and measure their resilience in order to address gaps identified in current community resilience measurement efforts. It also provides recommendations to the Gulf Research Program to build and measure resilience in the Gulf of Mexico region. (Text)
