On April 9, 2019, New York City’s health commissioner, Dr. Oxiris Barbot, declared a public health emergency in response to a measles outbreak that has infected hundreds of residents, mostly children. This 21-page rapid risk assessment addresses the evolution of the Zika virus disease epidemic since 2016. It was triggered by the recent update of World Health Organization (WHO) guidelines for the prevention of sexual transmission of Zika virus, recent identification of three Zika travel-associated cases in travelers from Denmark and Norway returning from Thailand, and case of sexual transmission from one returning traveler. The report assesses the risk for European Union/European Economic Area (EU/EEA) travelers, risk for pregnant women, risk related to sexual transmission, risk related to substances of human origin, and risk of importation into the EU/EEA. This six-page report on cases of dengue is based on data for 2017 retrieved from The European Surveillance System (TESSy) on December 10, 2018. For 2017, 27 countries reported 2,026 travel-associated cases of dengue fever, of which 1,818 (89.7 percent) were confirmed. The highest rates in both men and women were in people 25–44 years of age. The number of cases peaked in August, followed by peaks in November and March. Twenty-two percent of the cases were imported from India. (PDF)

This 50-page resource guide serves as a tool for Medical Reserve Corps (MRC) unit leaders to explore emergency response missions that they are able to support, understand how to align their capabilities with emergency response plans, develop Mission Ready Packages (MRPs), and use the MRP template to train and prepare volunteers for specific emergency response roles. It is intended to guide MRC unit leaders through the process of understanding and identifying local emergency response needs, develop their unit capabilities, and provide an opportunity to support their local community response needs.
