Washington University in St. Louis to offer many medical students free tuition

Washington University in St. Louis is committing $100 million in the next decade to offset the cost of tuition for its medical school students. Starting later this year, the money will allow up to half of all students to attend the school for free, although others will receive partial scholarships. The announcement comes on the heels of other medical schools around the country also going tuition-free in some capacity to minimize student debt and attract a diverse pool of applicants. New York University announced last year that it would waive tuition for all current and future students, and Kaiser Permanente’s new medical school said that its first five graduating classes will attend for free.
