WHO panel to re-evaluate Ebola emergency
The World Health Organization on Wednesday said that an emergency committee of its experts will again look at whether the Ebola outbreak in the Democratic Republic of the Congo should be declared a global health emergency. This marks the second time that an emergency committee will be meeting to advise WHO Director-General Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus on whether this outbreak meets the criteria to be declared a public health emergency of international concern. The committee — which will meet tomorrow — is convening as the number of Ebola cases in Africa continues to rise. Just yesterday, the DRC health ministry announced 18 new Ebola cases, the highest one-day increase in the epidemic that has been in full-swing since August last year.
