This six-page report on cases of zoonotic influenza is based on data for 2018 retrieved on April 3, 2019. No human cases of avian influenza were reported in the European Union/European Economic Area in 2018. Only two human A(H7N9) infections were reported from China, a significant decrease compared with 2017. (PDF)

This 44-page report describes the assistance that the Departments of Health and Human Services, and Education provide to help state and local agencies support children affected by trauma; how child welfare and education agencies in selected states support these children; and the challenges these agencies have faced in selected states in supporting these children. Although the findings cannot be generalized to all states, they provide insight into government support for children affected by trauma. (PDF)

This 20-page report covers the health events, threats, and actions taken in 2017 related to the findings of routine activities carried out by the European Centre for Disease Prevention and Control (ECDC) epidemic intelligence team. It is based on data from 2017 retrieved from ECDC’s Epidemic Intelligence Information System (EPIS), Early Warning Response System (EWRS), and Threat Tracking Tool (TTT) on January 12, 2018. In 2017, 411 events were monitored and discussed at daily round table meetings; 69 led to the opening and monitoring of a new threat. (PDF)

This six-page report on cases of seasonal influenza found that influenza activity started in week 47 of 2017, and returned to baseline levels in week 18 of 2018. Influenza viruses circulated at high levels between weeks 51 of 2017 and 13 of 2018. This is longer than in recent seasons and may have contributed to the severity of this season. The peak in activity was in early January in southwestern Europe and in mid-February 2018 in northern Europe, in the European Union/European Economic Area. In some countries in Eastern Europe, influenza activity did not peak until mid- to late March. (PDF)

This Web page discusses how people may experience chronic trauma from traumatic events such as natural disasters that continues or repeats for months or years at a time. It suggests that a new diagnosis, Complex PTSD (post-traumatic stress disorder), is needed to describe the symptoms of long-term trauma, and discusses what types of trauma are associated with Complex PTSD, what additional symptoms are seen in Complex PTSD, and the treatment for Complex PTSD. This seven-page report on cases of mumps is based on data for 2016 retrieved from The European Surveillance System (TESSy) on February 7, 2018. In 2016, 14,795 cases of mumps were reported by 28 European Union/European Economic Area Member States. The Czech Republic, Poland, Spain, and the United Kingdom accounted for 77 percent of all notified cases. (PDF)
