Recovery LIVE! Strategies to Support Families of Adults Living with Serious Mental Illness or Substance Use Disorders

Thursday | May 23, 2019 | 2:00 – 3:00 p.m. EDT

SAMHSA’s Bringing Recovery Supports to Scale Technical Assistance Center Strategy (BRSS TACS) invites you to join national experts in a conversation about how providers, practitioners, clinicians, and peer support workers can engage and support family members and caregivers of adults with serious mental illness or substance use disorders (SUDs).
Family members play important roles in the treatment and recovery of individuals with mental illness or SUDs. They may provide emotional and social support, help with accessing services, arrange or coordinate treatment, and provide financial assistance or transportation to and from appointments. At the same time, family caregivers may experience stress, anger, financial and emotional strain, and other emotional and physical effects. Presenters will provide an overview of best practices to support family members, including the Community Reinforcement and Family Training (CRAFT) model. They will discuss the importance of understanding how a family’s cultural perspective may influence treatment outcomes and adoption of recovery supports to address mental illness and SUDs.
Join us for this free, interactive virtual event, moderated by Shannon CrossBear, BRSS TACS TA Provider and Change Specialist at Change Matrix.
