Kids’ playing injuries increase with age

new report from the CDC finds that sports injuries, whether from recreational sports or leisurely playing, is increasing as kids get older. Looking at data from the National Health Interview Survey between 2015 and 2017, researchers found that there were roughly 83 injuries out of every 1,000 kids between the ages of 1 and 17 that led them to seek professional help or treatment. That rate for kids between 1 and 4 was about 48 per 1,000 kids, but increased to almost 73 for 5-11 year olds and 117 for those aged 12-17.
The report did not specify which activities led to these injuries nor does it specify the kinds of injuries, but with Memorial Day this weekend and an entire summer ahead of sports and recreational activities, I wish everyone safe playing!
