Senate to examine IP and drug pricing, 21st Century Cures Act
There are a couple of things happening at the Capitol today to keep an eye on. The Senate Judiciary Committee is meeting to discuss intellectual property and drug prices. One of my D.C. colleagues points out that it’s notable a Republican-led committee is holding this hearing, as the GOP has typically been deferential to pharma when it comes to IP protections and drug patent exclusivity. You can watch the hearing starting at 10 a.m. ET here.
Elsewhere, the Senate HELP Committee is meeting about the landmark 21st Century Cures Act and electronic health records, which the law makes special provisions to help improve but changes have taken a whileto implement. Dr. Kate Goodrich, director of CMS’ Center for Clinical Standards and Quality, and Dr. Don Rucker, the agency’s national coordinator for health information technology, will testify at the hearing, which you can stream starting at 10 a.m. ET here.
