Trump administration to give clinics more time to comply with Title X rules
Despite indications last week that new rules surrounding Title X funding would go into effect immediately, the Trump administration this weekend indicated that it would put a pause on enforcing the rules. The delay is intended to give health care providers time to comply with the new rules, which say that in order for clinics to continue receiving federal funding, they must not provide abortions or refer patients to abortion providers. A new timetable reviewed by The Associated Press shows that clinics now have to provide a compliance plan by next month, and by mid-September, to show that they are following most of the new rules. Planned Parenthood said last week that its clinics would not abide by the new rules. Illinois’ governor also said that the state would forgo receiving Title X funding.
