Some of the nation’s leading academic institutions have embraced genomic sequencing programs in recent years, offering patients the opportunity to learn far more about their own health than they might through 23andMe or other direct-to-consumer services. The latest such program comes from Brigham and Women’s Hospital in Boston, which is announcing today that it will offer a menu of options for a genetic workup. But advanced genomic sequencing can cost thousands of dollars out of pocket and, as STAT’s Rebecca Robbins reports, there are growing concerns that only the wealthy will be reaping the benefits. Read more.
