Source: European Union, European Centre for Disease Prevention and Control (ECDC). Published: 8/7/2019. This 11-page report is the sixth update of a rapid risk assessment originally produced on August 9, 2018. It addresses the impact of active chains of Ebola virus disease transmission reported outside the outbreak’s epicenter, specifically in Goma, a provincial capital in the Democratic Republic of the Congo (DRC). Goma has an airport serving international flights to several African countries, including the Republic of the Congo, Ethiopia, Uganda, and Zambia, which increases the risk that European Union/European Economic Area (EU/EEA) citizens living and traveling in the DRC get infected and eventually introduce the disease to the EU/EEA. Source: European Union, European Centre for Disease Prevention and Control (ECDC). Published: 7/2/2019. This 17-page report discusses how the risk for European Union/European Economic Area citizens to become infected with communicable diseases during the 2019 hajj is considered low, thanks to the vaccination requirements for traveling to Makkah (Mecca) and the Saudi Arabian preparedness plans that address the management of health hazards during and after hajj. The risk of vaccine-preventable and vector-borne diseases is considered low if preventive measures are applied. (PDF)
