The White House still wants drug prices on TV


The Trump administration’s effort to force drug companies to put prices in TV commercials may have hit a legal roadblock in July, but the White House isn’t done trying.

As STAT’s Nicholas Florko reports, the Department of Health and Human Services appealed the court ruling that struck down its rule, opening another chapter in the administration’s squabble with pharma.

At issue is not whether putting prices in ads would compel companies to make drugs cheaper — although that is certainly an open question — but rather whether HHS has the authority to do so. Last month, a federal judge determined that the rule went beyond the agency’s remit. Now the administration wants a second opinion.
