Biopharma pushes for 'shelter in place' exceptions

American citizens are being urged — and, in some cases, compelled — to stay at home. But these coronavirus-driven “shelter in place” orders might stymie biopharma’s ability to develop tools to battle Covid-19.

In the Bay Area, industry workers are being given the green-light to continue their work. Now drug industry trade groups are pressuring lawmakers to allow these and other employees to maintain vital roles — such as operating manufacturing plans, feeding lab animals, and maintaining vital cell lines. After all, STAT’s Rebecca Robbins and Kate Sheridan write, people with diabetes still need insulin during a pandemic.
