Coronavirus shutdown becomes real for millions in US as Surgeon general says we’ve reached a critical point


Millions across the U.S. attempted to adjust to a new coronavirus pandemic reality Monday as the shutdowns, closures and restrictions inspired by the outbreak became very real. Employees started their work weeks from home and, in some cases, did not know when they would return to their offices. Schools remained closed. California, Illinois, Ohio, Massachusetts, Washington state and New York City were among the places that ordered bars to close and restaurants to stop dine-in service. Movie theaters are closed in New York City, New Jersey, Connecticut and Los Angeles.

The Dow Jones Industrial Average fell 2,800 points in the opening minutes of trading after the Federal Reserve on Sunday took emergency action to combat the economic harm caused coronavirus fears. Sen. Bernie Sanders appeared to suggest that the next round of Democratic presidential primaries on Tuesday should be postponed. The White House canceled its scheduled annual Easter egg rollSurgeon General Dr. Jerome Adams told "Fox & Friends" the United States is at a critical point in the coronavirus crisis: “We have a choice to make as a nation: Do we want to go the direction of South Korea and really be aggressive and lower our mortality rates, or do we want to go the direction of Italy?”
