Covid-19: Doctors fume at government response to coronavirus pandemic

Burnout, anxiety, and disillusionment were problems plaguing the U.S. medical community even before the Covid-19 pandemic struck. Those problems have now been made worse by the crisis, and interviews with more than a dozen of physicians and scientists around the country reveal anger and a deep sense of betrayal among these professionals who say they feel forsaken by their government. STAT's Meghana Keshavan has more here

Here's what else is happening:
  • STAT's Helen Branswell writes in a new story that although President Trump has been critical of the WHO's response to the outbreak, the global health agency's actions are guided by rules that the U.S. has helped to write.
  • In a new First Opinion for STAT, Robin Gelburd writes that the proper way to pay tribute to the thousands of health care workers who are risking their lives on the frontlines of the outbreak is by forgiving their student loan debt.
  • The WHO, International Federation of Red Cross and Red Crescent Societies, and other global agencies just launched a children's book aimed at helping kids ages 6-11 learn how to protect themselves against Covid-19, but also manage the complex emotions they may be dealing with amid the uncertainty that the crisis has brought.
