US coronavirus deaths top 4,000, Russia sends medical equipment

With the number of coronavirus-related deaths in the U.S. surging past 4,000 on Tuesday night, Russia purportedly has sent a plane filled with medical equipment to the United States to help fight the deadly virus. The reported shipment comes following a phone conversation between President Trump and Russian President Vladimir Putin on Monday.

U.S. equity markets tumbled at the opening bell on Wednesday following the White House’s grim forecast of between 100,000 to 240,000 deaths in the U.S. from the virus.

Prominent Democrats ranging from senior members of Congress to the party's likely presidential nominee, Joe Biden, suggest the coronavirus social distancing restrictions may lead to the cancellation of the Democratic National Convention in July.

Meanwhile, federal authorities are warning that scammers are texting about offers of "goodies" from Costco, saying it's part of a coronavirus "stimulus package" for the store's "loyal customers." This, authorities say, is only part of a growing number of coronavirus-related ploys that have emerged in recent weeks.

Wimbledon became the latest sporting event to be canceled amid the coronavirus epidemic. And Sen. Rick Scott, R-Fla., wants Congress to investigate allegations that the World Health Organization helped China cover up the severity of its coronavirus outbreak and failed to hold the Chinese government accountable.

Emergency room doctors and nurses who are putting their personal health at risk to treat coronavirus patients are now seeing their pay, compensation and other benefits being cut as the economic impact from the pandemic spreads through the medical industry.

Coast Guard officials have advised that ships bolster their medical capabilities, personnel and resources in order to care for those onboard who are sick with influenza-like illnesses — like COVID-19 — for an “indefinite period.”

Walmart announced additional measures the company plans to take to protect the health and safety of workers and customers, including implementing contactless payment methods and installing Plexiglas dividers at checkout lanes.

Religious leaders are expressing concern and outrage after New York City Mayor Bill de Blasio threatened to close places of worship if they violated the coronavirus stay-at-home orders.

The coronavirus pandemic is uniting people in ways not seen since the September 11 attacks, a New York first responder told Fox News.
