Pelosi, Schumer call for another $500B-plus in aid as part of 'interim' coronavirus relief bill

House Speaker Nancy Pelosi and Senate Minority Leader Chuck Schumer on Wednesday called for more than $500 billion in additional funding for what they termed an “interim emergency” coronavirus package — before Congress even gets around to tackling a new full-blown relief bill.

Dr. Zeke Emanuel, an adviser to Democratic presidential candidate Joe Biden and an architect of ObamaCare, said this week that Americans could be dealing with strict social distancing measures to combat the coronavirus for 18 months and that the U.S. "will not be able to return to normalcy until we find a vaccine or effective medications."

Still, the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention is considering changing its guidelines for self-isolation to make it easier for those who have been exposed to someone with the coronavirus to return to work if they are without symptoms.

Meanwhile, Dr. Anthony Fauci, the director of the National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Diseases and face of the White House Coronavirus Task Force, predicted that the United States could able to reopen its schools in the fall.

U.S. equity markets rallied Wednesday amid optimism that hospitalizations related to the coronavirus are beginning to plateau in some of the hardest-hit areas of the country.

And the NFL draft scheduled to take place between April 23 and April 25 will be “fully virtual,” with prospects, coaches, general managers and executives stuck at home to make their selections. NFL Commissioner Roger Goodell made it clear there would be no group gatherings.
