Women comprise the majority of the adult Medicaid population and the program offers coverage of a wide range of primary, preventive, specialty, and long-term care services that are important to women across their lifespans. Given the importance of the program for women and their families, changes to the program, such as the 2025 federal policy changes to Medicaid and the enactment of new work requirements for the Medicaid expansion population, will have significant implications for low-income women’s access to coverage and care. This data note presents key data points describing the current state of the Medicaid program as it affects women.
