The NIAID Division of Microbiology and Infectious Diseases is seeking an exceptional and visionary leader to be the associate director for biodefense and emerging infectious diseases product development, NIAID, and director, Office of Biodefense, Research Resources, and Translational Research. The associate director, NIAID/director, OBRRTR, has scientific responsibility for programs focused on the development of countermeasures (drugs, diagnostics, and vaccines) not only for potential biological threats, but also for all emerging infectious diseases other than HIV, from early product development through advanced clinical evaluation.
Applicants must have an M.D. or Ph.D. in a biomedical science and demonstrate a broad range of expertise in infectious disease disciplines, dual use research of concern (DURC), potential pandemic pathogens (PPP), and select agents and toxins that are included in the biodefense research agenda.
