Good afternoon,
By now you may have noticed a new communication in your inbox. Today, the U.S. Food and Drug Administration unveiled a new and improved way of communicating with you – FDA Voices.
The FDA is comprised of more than 18,000 employees, each playing an integral role supporting our mission to protect and promote public health. This mission can only be achieved by leveraging the expertise and work of our employees who bring to the agency a range of knowledge in various areas of science, policy, regulatory enforcement, public health, information technology, biology and chemistry--just to name a few.
FDA Voices is designed to share thought-provoking insights and perspectives on a variety of topics and issues from FDA experts and leaders across the agency. FDA Voices will reflect the agency’s strategic policy and priority areas, including addressing the opioid addition crisis, leveraging innovation and competition to improve access to critical medical products, empowering consumers with information to make more informed decisions about their diets and health, and strengthening our scientific workforce, among many others. The goal is to communicate information that is tailored to stakeholders, as well as timely, impactful and forward-thinking.
FDA Voices will deliver content in five different areas:
Voices on Policy – Among the FDA’s foundational responsibilities is regulatory policy. At the highest levels of engagement, FDA staff and leadership work diligently and collaboratively with the public and private sectors, to protect and promote public health, advance scientific rigor, and support innovative products and pathways.
Voices on Medical Products – We use medical products every day. They range from glucose meters and programmable pacemakers, to the pills and products in our medicine cabinets. They include brand and generic drugs, complex biologics, and vaccines. They need to be safe and effective. The FDA is helping to bring scientific advances to the patients who rely on these products every day.
Voices on Food – The U.S. has one of the safest food supplies in the world – something the FDA works hard to ensure, despite our food system being among most diverse and complex in the world. Gain insight from FDA experts who work to keep the nation’s human and animal food supply safe, and when necessary, remove harmful products from the marketplace.
Voices on Tobacco – Tobacco use remains the leading cause of preventable disease and death in the U.S. We want to change that deadly equation, to improve the lives of millions of currently addicted tobacco users, and protect future generations of kids from preventable tobacco-related harms.
Voices on Consumer Safety and Enforcement – Public health protection is at the core of the agency’s mission. Learn about how the FDA is ensuring the safety and security of our nation’s food, tobacco and medical products while promoting the importance of public health and well-being.
Subscribers of FDA Voices will now be able to self-select from the topic areas above the FDA Voices they would like to receive. This redesigned format will enable you to tailor your subscriptions to specific areas of interest, delivering to your inbox only the information you want and need.
If you are receiving this e-mail that means you were previously signed up to receive FDA’s Voice Blog, which has now been retired. For your convenience, we have moved your subscription to FDA Voices on Policy. We encourage you to visit our website and modify your subscriptions – opting in or out of only the content you would like to receive.
As our work continues to grow in scope and complexity, so must our approaches to communicating with you about that work. FDA Voices enables deeper access into the mindset of experts and leaders from across the agency who collaborate with industry, developers, advocates, providers and political leaders every day, to find the best ways to serve the agency’s mission and support innovation and scientific advances.
We hope you enjoy this new resource!
Sincerely,
Jennifer Rodriguez
Acting Associate Commissioner
