The drugs most often reported in overdose deaths
A new CDC report released this morning paints a detailed picture of the drugs most often involved in overdose deaths. Among overdose deaths in 2016 that noted at least one specific drug, fentanyl was the most frequently mentioned drug. That’s a change from 2011, when oxycodone was at the top of the list, and heroin, the most commonly reported drug in overdose deaths from 2012 to 2015. The report also found that the 10 most frequently mentioned drugs — which also included hydrocodone, methadone, and morphine — were often found in combination in people who died of overdoses.
