Alison Cuff & João C. Setubal
Alison is an Editor for the BMC-series. She studied at the University of Reading completing a PhD on investigating the effects of mutations on the structure of p53. After working for a time in academia, she joined BioMed Central in May 2014, as a Database Editor for the ISRCTN registry. Alison joined the BMC-series in November 2016.
João C. Setubal is a full professor of Bioinformatics at the Department of Biochemistry, University of São Paulo, Brazil. He has a PhD in Computer Science from the University of Washington (USA). His research interests are in computational tools for genomics, metagenomics, and transcriptomics, and applications of such tools primarily in microbiology and microbial ecology.

Sequence analysis – an old/new section in BMC Bioinformatics
The journal sections Sequence Analysis (methods) and Sequence Analysis (applications) in BMC Bioinformatics have been merged into one new section named Sequence Analysis. Here, the Section Editor of this new section, João C Setubal, and Alison Cuff, the in-house Editor for BMC Bioinformatics explain the rationale for this merge and give a brief, general review of the field.
