This 40-page Lessons Paper reviews relevant grey and published literature to draw lessons from previous humanitarian responses following any type of earthquake, provided it occurred on dry land. The lessons originate from past humanitarian responses across sectors. The goal of this paper is to improve humanitarian programming by drawing on the experiences of previous comparable disasters and highlighting the specific features that should be included in future humanitarian responses to earthquakes.
