Source: Trust for America's Health. Published: 2/2019. This series has tracked public health emergency preparedness in the United States since 2003, and documented the nation’s level of preparedness as well as those areas still in need of improvement. The 2019 report finds that states have made progress in key areas, including public health funding and participation in provider compacts and coalitions, with a majority of states making preparations to expand capabilities in an emergency, often through collaboration. It outlines major public health incidents, actions, research findings, meetings, and federal hearings across three domains: disease outbreaks; severe weather and natural disasters; and biological, chemical, radiological, and nuclear terrorism. This 18-page draft action plan to improve public health preparedness and response in the World Health Organization European Region, 2018–2023, aims to strengthen national and regional capacities to effectively prevent, prepare for, detect, and respond to public health threats and emergencies, and to provide support to affected countries, when necessary. It is a call for all countries to strengthen or maintain emergency response capacities through, for example, training and opportunities to practice and review new and existing capacities. (PDF)
