Good morning, folks! This is my last edition of Morning Rounds. Starting Monday, Shraddha Chakradhar will get you ahead of the day's news. There's a note from me at the end of this newsletter — but first, here's what you need to know about health and medicine today.

FDA sounds an alarm about use of robot devices in cancer surgery

The FDA is warning patients and health care providers to be cautious about the use of robot-assisted devices for mastectomy cancer surgeries. The devices help surgeons carry out procedures through small incisions, but the FDA hasn't cleared them to be marketed for any cancer treatment. The agency says it's aware that doctors are using them for cancer surgeries, even though there isn't enough evidence on their safety or effectiveness for those procedures. A recent study found that using the devices for hysterectomies in cervical cancer patients is associated with lower survival rates than traditional surgery.
