From #MeToo to measles, what I heard at Aspen

THAT'S ME ON THE ASPEN INSTITUTE CAMPUS — LOOK AT THOSE ROCKIES! (COURTESY STEPHANIE BARTNER)
I caught up with all kinds of people while at the Aspen Ideas Health Festival. Here’s some of what they had to say:
  • Dr. Esther Choo, a founding member of Time’s Up Healthcare, on the #MeToo movement: “This is not just a women’s problem," Choo said, looking around an overwhelmingly female audience at a session on #MeToo in health care. "Next time, pull in the men. They need to actually be here if they care about [health] outcomes they talk about.”
  • Dr. Jerome Adams, the U.S. surgeon general, on marijuana: “I’m very concerned at how fast and how far we’re going into marijuana,” he said, adding, “There is no such as thing as medical marijuana. There are over 100 components in marijuana that may be medicinal, but we need to push for more research.”
  • Dr. Robert Redfield, the CDC director, on the measles outbreaks and anti-vaxxers: “We need to be more successful in countering misinformation.”
