Ebola spreads to another Congolese province

The Ebola outbreak in the Congo has spread to a third province: Two new cases of the disease were recorded late last week in South Kivu, with a third case confirmed over the weekend. Last week's cases were of a mother and child who had traveled from the town of Beni in North Kivu down to Mwanga in South Kivu were diagnosed with the disease. The mother died, the WHO shared on Friday, but the baby is receiving care. There aren't yet details on the third case. WHO Director-General Dr. Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus also shared on Twitter that the news has “sparked a rapid response” from the Congolese health ministry and others to reach anybody else the family may have come in contact with. The outbreak in Congo is now in its second year: Some 2,850 have been infected and nearly 1,900 people have died.
