More bad blood for Holmes
Erstwhile Theranos CEO Elizabeth Holmes is confronting legal woes yet again — but this time her own counsel is the source of the trouble. The former billionaire, whose single-drop-of-blood-tech dazzled overly credulous investors before it was exposed (allegedly) as a sham, hasn’t paid her legal fees in more than a year, the San Jose Mercury News writes.
In a Sept. 30 civil case against Holmes, her Cooley LLP lawyers wrote that the firm “has no expectation that Ms. Holmes will ever pay for its services as her counsel” and will no longer represent her.

Holmes, along with former company president Sunny Balwani, are still being tried in a federal criminal case that is slated to begin next summer. The pair face a maximum sentence of 20 years in jail, as well as a $2.75 million fine.
