Seattle Children’s opens new pediatric research facility with cell therapy ‘factory’

Seattle Children’s Hospital just announced the opening of a new 540,000-square-foot pediatric research facility called Building Cure. Part of the new $300 million center is a “Cure Factory,” which will be dedicated to producing immunotherapies and other cell therapies for children with cancer and other disease. The treatments have traditionally been limited by the slow rate of engineering the necessary cells, but the Cure Factory touts being able to produce cell therapies for up to 1,000 children every year. Building Cure will also include a new Science Discovery Lab, where students in grades 8-12 can interact with scientists and try their hand at immunotherapy, gene editing, and infectious disease experiments underway at the hospital.
