Supreme Court to review Louisiana abortion law
The Supreme Court has agreed to take up a case involving a Louisiana abortion law, sure to produce a closely watched decision from a remade and more conservative court. The Louisiana law mandates clinicians who perform abortions have admitting privileges at nearby hospitals, which critics of the policy say will leave the state with only one clinic. It is similar to a Texas law that justices struck down in 2016, but that was before the appointments of Justices Neil Gorsuch and Brett Kavanaugh under President Trump. The decision will likely come in June and could be a harbinger of future cases challenging the constitutional right to abortion set by Roe v. Wade.
