This republication by the American Journal of Medical Quality highlights the use of Crew Resource Management (CRM) which is an aviation strategy that has been used in healthcare to encourage culture change around patient safety among clinicians, staff and executives. CRM incorporates teamwork elements (situational awareness, communication, and task management) and human factors (coordination, decision making, mission planning) to manage errors. This study estimated that implementation of CRM can result in a reduction in adverse events and generate positive return-on-investment.
