Results from AHRQ’s Ambulatory Surgery Center Survey on Patient Safety Culture: 2020 User Database Report are now available. 10,527 health care providers and staff from 282 U.S. ambulatory surgery centers (ASCs) submitted data. The survey includes 32 items assessing eight areas of patient safety culture or composite measures in ASCs.
Key survey findings:
  • Organizational Learning-Continuous Improvement was the highest-scoring composite measure, with 92% of respondents reporting that their facility actively looks for ways to improve patient safety and makes changes to ensure that problems do not recur.
  • Staffing, Work Pressure, and Pace was the lowest-scoring composite measure, with 74% of respondents indicating that that there are enough staff to handle the workload, they do not feel rushed, and have enough time to properly prepare for procedures.
