Inside STAT: Contract spells out how the University of Chicago shared patient data with Google

(ALEX HOGAN/STAT)
As more hospitals strike deals to share de-identified patient data with tech companies, few have generated more controversy than one between Google and the University of Chicago. That deal, part of a research collaboration to develop algorithms to make predictions in the hospital, sparked a lawsuit alleging that the University of Chicago patients could, in fact, be re-identified, especially since the data contained searchable clinicians' notes in free text form and the dates when patients checked in and out of the hospital. Now, STAT has obtained a copy of a 2016 contract between Google and the University of Chicago outlining the stipulations of the deal. STAT Plus subscribers can download the contract and read more from STAT's Rebecca Robbins here.
