Congressional briefing examines health effects of climate change
As hurricane season for this year gets underway in the U.S., experts are planning on gathering virtually in front of the House Oversight Committee for a briefing today on the health impacts of climate change. The health effects of climate change include worsening respiratory and cardiac health, the hearing memo states, in addition to adverse pregnancy outcomes — especially among Black mothers — from excess heat and air pollution. The panel of experts will include physicians — including one from Harvard Medical School who helped organize a consortium earlier this year for physicians to address climate change — as well as experts in earth science and economics who will speak about how inaction on climate change could negatively impact human health.
