A U.K. commission issued 44 recommendations for regulating medical AI, STAT’s Andrew Joseph writes, which include staged approvals and continuous monitoring of products in clinical use. It also gives U.K. regulators stronger enforcement power. Meanwhile, the U.S. government will test this idea in the real world: ARPA-H plans to commit up to $62.7 million to develop AI agents that could help manage heart failure, STAT’s Mario Aguilar writes. The idea is that the agents could eventually assess symptoms, order labs, or even prescribe medications with limited clinician involvement.
